Volunteers allow their child play buddy to determine the direction of the play, celebrate their choices, and encourage students to explore their ideas and interests. This work is rooted in the idea that play is a form of expression, exploration, and communication. It\u2019s a way to test boundaries and carve out a sense of identity. G2 volunteers help provide a space for children to do this in a safe, structured way.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container copyFull\" style=\"padding:0px 0px;\">\n    <div class=\"grid\">\n        <div class=\"col-12\">\n           <h2>G2 Mission<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Strong\u2019s G2 program seeks to build intergenerational relationships with volunteers and children through its play-based initiatives that foster self-confidence, community, friendship, and social and emotional skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>G2 Vision<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">G2 believes play is a basic human right, and that all children should have access to healthy, empowering play spaces. Children are natural teachers of play and can communicate their interests, passions, and ideas. They meet with each child for 30 minutes, and afterwards have a<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">discussion led by the G2 site coordinator.<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                                            <div class=\"accordion-item\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-2\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span>What is the time commitment?<\/div>\n                            <div id=\"collapse-2\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n                                <p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Two regularly scheduled hours each week from early October through May, while school is in<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">session<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                                            <div class=\"accordion-item\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-3\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span>What skills do volunteers need?<\/div>\n                            <div id=\"collapse-3\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n                                <p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">If you know how to play Candyland and can make \u201ccookies\u201d out of Play-Doh, you\u2019ve got what it<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">takes. The most important skills are to enjoy being with children and listen to what they have to<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">say.<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                                            <div class=\"accordion-item\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-4\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span>Is there any training required?<\/div>\n                            <div id=\"collapse-4\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n                                <p>There is an orientation session each fall and three in-service classes throughout the year.<\/p>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                                            <div class=\"accordion-item\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-5\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span>How are the children selected?<\/div>\n                            <div id=\"collapse-5\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n                                <p>All children in a G2 classroom participate.<\/p>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                                            <div class=\"accordion-item\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-6\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span>What if I can\u2019t come every week?<\/div>\n                            <div id=\"collapse-6\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n                                <p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">We understand that life can be unpredictable and situations and opportunities arise when you<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">can\u2019t make a session. There are substitute volunteers to help. G2 is all about creating a<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">relationship with children who look forward to being with you each week, so please make every<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">effort to maintain a consistent schedule, though.<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                                            <div class=\"accordion-item\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-7\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span>Which schools have G2 programs?<\/div>\n                            <div id=\"collapse-7\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n                                <p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">G2 is currently in the Rochester City School District, Greece School District, and East Rochester<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">School District.<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                                            <div class=\"accordion-item\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-8\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span>What will I get out of this?<\/div>\n                            <div id=\"collapse-8\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n                                <p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">You will develop a sense of purpose and lasting connections to the children. Many G2<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">volunteers also gain active social friendships with the other adults in their G2 group.<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                                            <div class=\"accordion-item\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-9\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span>How long will my relationship with the children last?<\/div>\n                            <div id=\"collapse-9\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n                                <p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The play sessions last from October through May. Sometimes there is an opportunity to work<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with the same child for a second year. Additionally, the older children who had G2 participation<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in previous years love to see their adult friends at school. They are quick to say hi and chat<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">about how things are going for them.<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                                            <div class=\"accordion-item\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-10\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span>Why does G2 play instead of tutor children?<\/div>\n                            <div id=\"collapse-10\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n                                <p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Play is the activity of G2 but not the goal. The relationships that these play sessions nurture are<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the goal of G2. By building relationships where children feel seen and loved, G2 helps equip<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">them with self-confidence to engage in all other parts of the school day. By creating a play<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">space where children can share about themselves, ask questions, and test out relationship<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">skills, volunteers help them build bridges between the skills they\u2019re learning in class and their<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">interests, passions, and ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                                            <div class=\"accordion-item\">\n                            <div class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse-11\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span>Are there opportunities to volunteer without making a commitment for the entire school year?<\/div>\n                            <div id=\"collapse-11\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n                                <p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Yes.
